Over the years there has been so many ups and downs under the leadership of Sullivan and Co. Its fair to say that they divide opinion, I for one don’t have the level of hatred that some people have towards them, that being said I would still wave them goodbye in a heartbeat and welcome owners that are dedicated to seeing success on the pitch that equates to monetary reward, rather than the current owners that appear to use West Ham to increase their fortune. However, with Steidten and his team are we finally starting to see a shift?!
As fans do we put up with too much, are we so divided that the board are able to go under the radar while we are at each other’s throats. I remember a time of going to West Ham and walking from my home in Stratford, though West Ham Park up Plashet road (stopping at the chippy of course) and all the fans would be happy chatting to each other looking forward to the game, there was such unity. Now what do we see abuse on X, memes being created and some people just out right abusive should someone dare to share a different opinion. The recent concession price fiasco has been a prime example, we have a petition with a very low number of signatures considering the size of our fanbase. Are we as West Ham fans doing that well financially, or are we now supporters that that say ‘don’t care I’m alright’?!!. Where has that sense of community and togetherness gone. I personally take the stance that if I don’t agree with a price I don’t pay and don’t go. However, we must acknowledge that to some people especially children, going to football is a way of life some may even refer to it as a culture. There have been talks of protests to force the boards hands or make them take notice, but I’m sorry fellow hammers, rich people don’t change their minds because you shout at them. Football should be affordable to all but in this corporate climate I only see more distance between the business of the sport and the working class where its roots were founded.
Come on you Rip-Roaring Irons
